About Metal Slug X
Metal Slug X is a classic arcade run-and-gun shooter developed and published by SNK in 1999 for the Neo Geo arcade system. Although it shares the same core structure as Metal Slug 2, this version was redesigned with gameplay improvements, remixed stages, and smoother performance, making it one of the most popular entries in the series.
The game follows the Peregrine Falcon Squad as they continue fighting General Morden’s forces through deserts, military compounds, frozen landscapes, and alien-infested battlefields. The action gradually shifts from military warfare into full sci-fi chaos, featuring strange enemies, massive machines, and oversized boss fights.
Compared to Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug X introduces new enemy placements, extra weapons, altered stage layouts, and faster combat pacing. The game is especially remembered for its polished arcade flow and highly detailed pixel animation, which gave every explosion, vehicle, and enemy encounter a strong visual impact.
Its mix of frantic shooting, humor, and cooperative gameplay helped make Metal Slug X one of the standout arcade shooters of the late 90s.
How To Play
In Metal Slug X, players battle through intense side-scrolling arcade shooting stages filled with enemy soldiers, tanks, aircraft, and alien creatures.
Players can run, jump, crouch, fire in multiple directions, and throw grenades while avoiding heavy enemy attacks. Fast reactions and movement control are essential, especially during crowded combat sections and large boss encounters.
Throughout the game, players collect powerful weapons such as heavy machine guns, lasers, rocket launchers, and flamethrowers. Different weapons are better suited for certain enemy formations or boss patterns, encouraging players to adapt during missions.
The game also includes rideable vehicles like the Metal Slug tank, which provide stronger attacks and temporary protection against enemy fire. Some stages introduce special effects and transformations that change how characters move or attack during combat.
As missions progress, enemy waves become larger and more aggressive, with bosses covering the screen in explosions and projectile attacks. Surviving later stages requires careful positioning, quick timing, and learning enemy behavior across each arcade mission.
