About Metal Slug 3
Metal Slug 3 is a classic arcade run-and-gun shooter developed by SNK and released in 2000 for the Neo Geo arcade system. It is widely considered one of the best entries in the Metal Slug series thanks to its massive stages, creative mission design, and nonstop arcade action.
The game continues the conflict against General Morden’s forces, but the story quickly expands into larger sci-fi battles involving alien invasions, giant mechanical weapons, mutant creatures, and bizarre experimental technology. Compared to earlier entries, Metal Slug 3 pushes the series into even more chaotic and unpredictable territory.
One of the game’s standout features is its variety. Missions shift between military bases, underwater routes, zombie-filled environments, and outer-space battles, often changing gameplay styles mid-stage. The detailed sprite animation, oversized bosses, and explosive effects helped Metal Slug 3 become one of the most visually impressive arcade shooters of its era.
The game also became especially popular for its cooperative arcade gameplay, where two players could fight through overwhelming enemy waves together while trying to survive increasingly difficult missions.
How To Play
In Metal Slug 3, players fight through intense side-scrolling arcade shooting stages packed with enemy soldiers, vehicles, monsters, and giant bosses.
Players can run, jump, crouch, shoot in multiple directions, and throw grenades while advancing through enemy-heavy battlefields. Quick movement and constant awareness are important, since enemy attacks often come from multiple directions at once.
Throughout missions, players collect powerful weapons such as heavy machine guns, lasers, rocket launchers, shotguns, and explosive cannons. Ammo is limited, so choosing the right weapon for each combat situation becomes important during later stages.
Metal Slug 3 also introduces branching stage paths, allowing players to choose different routes through certain missions. Some paths feature underwater combat, while others focus on vehicle-heavy sections or enemy swarms.
The game includes multiple vehicles beyond the classic Metal Slug tank, including submarines, aircraft, and specialized combat machines that temporarily change movement and attack styles.
As the game progresses, bosses become larger and far more chaotic, filling the screen with projectiles, explosions, and enemy reinforcements. Surviving later missions requires strong timing, careful positioning, and fast reactions under heavy arcade pressure.
