About Metal Slug

Metal Slug is a classic arcade run-and-gun shooter developed by Nazca Corporation and published by SNK in 1996 for the Neo Geo arcade system. It quickly became one of the most recognizable arcade action games of the 90s thanks to its smooth animation, chaotic combat, and memorable pixel-art style.

Players join the Peregrine Falcon Squad and fight against General Morden’s rebel forces across military bases, deserts, jungles, and heavily guarded war zones. Unlike more realistic military shooters, Metal Slug mixes intense combat with exaggerated cartoon-style action, giving the game a fast and energetic arcade feel.

One of the most iconic features is the Metal Slug tank, a heavily armed vehicle players can use during missions for stronger attacks and extra protection. Combined with explosive effects, hidden prisoners, massive bosses, and nonstop enemy waves, the game delivers the kind of quick-action gameplay that defined arcade shooters of the era.

Metal Slug became especially popular in arcades because of its challenging level design, responsive controls, and fun co-op gameplay that encouraged players to jump in together and survive the chaos.

How To Play

In Metal Slug, players control soldiers through fast-paced side-scrolling arcade shooting stages filled with enemy troops, tanks, helicopters, and environmental hazards.

The objective is to advance through each mission while defeating enemies and avoiding incoming attacks. Players can run, jump, crouch, shoot in multiple directions, and throw grenades to clear enemy formations and destroy vehicles.

Throughout the game, different weapons can be collected, including heavy machine guns, rocket launchers, flamethrowers, and shotguns. These weapons provide temporary firepower boosts and help during crowded combat sections or boss fights.

Players can also enter the Metal Slug tank, which changes gameplay by adding armor, cannon attacks, and stronger mobility against enemy forces. However, the vehicle can still be destroyed if it takes too much damage.

Stages become increasingly intense with larger enemy waves, faster attack patterns, and screen-filling bosses. Success depends on movement timing, quick reactions, and learning how enemies behave during each arcade mission.
