About Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan is a side-scrolling action game developed and published by Konami in 1990. Based on the hit animated series, the game follows the four turtle brothers as they set out to rescue their captured friends and stop Shredder and the Foot Clan from causing chaos across New York City. While many TMNT games focused on arcade-style brawling, this entry was designed specifically for handheld play and delivered a fast-paced adventure that fit perfectly on the original Game Boy.
The game stars Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael, each armed with their signature weapons. Familiar enemies and locations from the cartoon appear throughout the adventure, giving fans plenty of recognizable moments. Despite the limitations of the monochrome handheld, Konami managed to create stages filled with moving platforms, hidden items, and boss encounters that captured the spirit of the series.
Unlike the earlier NES game, Fall of the Foot Clan keeps things straightforward. Levels progress from left to right with a stronger focus on action and platforming rather than exploration. The result is a more accessible experience that works well in short play sessions while still offering enough challenge to keep players coming back.
The game was released exclusively for the Game Boy, making it one of the earliest TMNT adventures available on a handheld system. More than three decades later, it remains a nostalgic favorite among retro players and collectors.

How To Play
In Fall of the Foot Clan, you begin with all four turtles available. Only one turtle fights at a time, but when a character loses all of their health, another brother automatically takes over. This system effectively gives players four lives and encourages careful play to preserve the entire team.
Gameplay revolves around moving through side-scrolling stages while defeating Foot Soldiers, avoiding traps, and overcoming platforming sections. Each turtle uses a different weapon with slightly different reach, although the differences are less dramatic than in some other TMNT games. Along the way, defeated enemies may drop pizza slices to restore health, helping players survive longer battles.
One of the features that makes this Game Boy entry stand out is its variety of stage perspectives. Most levels are traditional side-scrolling action stages, but some sections switch to vehicle sequences, including surfing and hang-gliding segments. These moments break up the pace and add variety that was uncommon for many handheld games of the era.
Boss battles appear regularly and usually require learning attack patterns rather than simply rushing in. Since losing a turtle permanently removes them until the next continue, staying patient and using the available health pickups wisely becomes an important part of finishing the game.
Compared with the exploration-heavy NES title and the multiplayer arcade games that followed, Fall of the Foot Clan delivers a more focused and portable experience. Its shorter stages and straightforward controls made it especially well suited to the Game Boy, giving players a chance to enjoy a complete TMNT adventure wherever they went.
