About Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII is a turn-based role-playing game (RPG) developed and published by Square. How To Play
Final Fantasy VII uses the Active Time Battle (ATB) system, where characters act once their individual action gauges are filled. Battles require balancing physical attacks, magic, summons, items, and special abilities while responding quickly to enemy actions. Timing and party composition become increasingly important during later boss encounters.
The game's signature mechanic is the Materia system. Materia orbs can be inserted into weapons and armor to grant spells, summons, command abilities, and passive effects. As Materia gains AP through battles, it grows stronger and unlocks more powerful abilities. Linking compatible Materia together also creates useful combinations, such as adding elemental damage to weapons or enhancing healing magic with support effects.
Your active party consists of three characters chosen from a much larger roster, each with their own statistics and unique Limit Breaks. These powerful attacks become available after taking damage in battle and often turn difficult encounters in your favor. While characters have different strengths, the Materia system allows them to fill a wide variety of combat roles depending on how you build them.
Outside combat, exploration expands steadily as you gain access to vehicles including chocobos, the Tiny Bronco, submarines, and the Highwind airship. Hidden caves, optional Weapons, secret Materia, breeding chocobos, and numerous side quests provide dozens of hours of additional content beyond the main story. Combined with its flexible customization system, memorable cast, and expansive world, Final Fantasy VII remains one of the most influential RPGs ever released for the PlayStation.
