About Super Bomberman

Super Bomberman is a classic maze action game developed by Hudson Soft for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. As the first Bomberman game on the SNES, it introduced smoother controls, more colorful visuals, and the famous multiplayer mode that made the series even more popular during the 16-bit era.

The game follows White Bomberman as he battles the Dastardly Bombers across several themed worlds filled with enemies, traps, and boss fights. Compared to the older NES titles, Super Bomberman feels faster and more polished. Stages are larger, explosions are more satisfying, and enemy movement is more aggressive once later levels begin filling the screen with hazards.

One of the biggest differences in this version is the multiplayer support. Using the SNES Multitap, up to four players could battle at the same time inside compact arenas packed with breakable walls and hidden power-ups. Matches often turn chaotic very quickly once chain explosions start covering the map.

Even today, Super Bomberman still stands out because of its simple controls, fast pacing, and competitive local multiplayer gameplay.

How To Play

In Super Bomberman, players move through maze-like stages while placing bombs to destroy blocks and defeat enemies. Exit doors and power-ups are hidden beneath breakable walls, so clearing paths is an important part of every level.

The SNES version plays faster and smoother than the earlier NES games. Enemies move more aggressively, stages feel more dynamic, and larger explosions make positioning much more important. Careless bomb placement can easily trap players in tight corridors.

Power-ups can increase blast range, movement speed, and the number of bombs placed at once. Some upgrades also allow players to kick bombs across the map, creating more aggressive strategies during both single-player and multiplayer matches.

The game includes a single-player adventure with themed worlds and boss fights, but the multiplayer Battle Mode is the main attraction. Up to four players compete in enclosed arenas while trying to trap opponents with bombs and chain reactions. As more walls disappear, matches become faster, riskier, and much more intense.
