About Super Bomberman 2

Super Bomberman 2 is a maze action game developed by Hudson Soft and released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994. Built on the foundation of the first SNES game, this sequel adds more personality, better stage variety, and one of the most memorable multiplayer modes in the classic Bomberman series.

The story follows White Bomberman after Black Bomberman is brainwashed by the villain Bagular, forcing the two former allies into conflict. Compared to the earlier game, Super Bomberman 2 puts more focus on character interactions and themed worlds, giving the adventure a more playful Saturday morning cartoon feeling without slowing down the action.

Visually, the game is brighter and more detailed than its predecessor. Stages include castles, icy landscapes, forests, and mechanical areas filled with moving hazards and more active enemy designs. Boss fights are also larger and more creative this time, often requiring players to dodge attacks while finding safe moments to land bomb hits.

One of the biggest additions in Super Bomberman 2 is the improved Battle Mode. Multiplayer arenas feel more dynamic thanks to new stage gimmicks, hidden traps, and the introduction of computer-controlled opponents, allowing solo players to enjoy battle matches even without friends nearby. The pacing is faster, and matches become chaotic quickly once upgraded bombs start triggering chain reactions across the map.

Even years later, many retro players still remember Super Bomberman 2 as one of the strongest multiplayer games on the SNES because of how simple it is to start and how competitive matches become after only a few rounds.

How To Play

In Super Bomberman 2, players move through maze-like stages while placing bombs to destroy blocks, uncover items, and defeat enemies. Exit doors are hidden beneath soft walls, so clearing parts of the stage is necessary before advancing.

Compared to the first Super Bomberman, this version includes more environmental variety and more aggressive enemy behavior. Some stages contain narrow pathways, moving obstacles, and enemies that attack from multiple directions, forcing players to react faster and use bombs more carefully.

Power-ups can increase blast range, movement speed, and the number of bombs placed at once. Special abilities like bomb kicking become especially useful during crowded stages and multiplayer battles where controlling space matters more than simply attacking.

The single-player mode also features more elaborate boss fights. Some bosses move constantly around the arena, while others attack from a distance or force players into tighter spaces before bomb openings appear.

Battle Mode is the biggest highlight for many players. Up to four players can compete in enclosed arenas filled with breakable walls and hidden upgrades. This version also adds CPU opponents, making multiplayer-style matches possible even in single-player sessions. As arenas open up and bomb power increases, matches become fast, unpredictable, and full of sudden reversals.
