About Venom • Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety

Venom • Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety is a 1995 action title developed by Software Creations and published by Acclaim Entertainment. Inspired by Marvel's "Separation Anxiety" comic storyline, the game reunites Spider-Man and Venom after the events of Maximum Carnage, forcing the two rivals to work together against a new wave of symbiote creatures threatening New York.

The trouble begins when the Life Foundation succeeds in creating several offspring from Venom's alien symbiote. What starts as a scientific experiment quickly spirals into chaos as these unstable creatures escape and begin attacking the city. Spider-Man and Venom reluctantly join forces, facing enemies such as Scream, Riot, Lasher, Agony, and Phage while trying to uncover who is behind the growing crisis.

Released for both the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, the game continues the comic-book presentation established by its predecessor. Story sequences unfold through illustrated panels, and the darker atmosphere reflects the tone of the source material. Although it shares some similarities with Maximum Carnage, the sequel places greater emphasis on cooperative action and the symbiote family storyline.

Players interested in revisiting this chapter of Marvel's 16-bit era can load up the SNES Emulator on Emulator Games Zone and experience the battle against the Life Foundation's creations directly from a web browser.

How To Play

Players can select either Spider-Man or Venom, with each character offering slightly different attack speed and animation. Basic punches and kicks are combined with stronger special moves, allowing players to deal with groups of enemies or create breathing room during crowded fights. Since special attacks consume health, using them recklessly can leave players vulnerable during later stages.

The SNES version supports two-player cooperative play, making it possible for Spider-Man and Venom to fight side by side throughout the adventure. Coordinating attacks with another player becomes especially useful when dealing with enemies that approach from both directions or bosses that can quickly overwhelm a single character.

Stages take place across streets, subways, laboratories, warehouses, and hidden facilities connected to the symbiote experiments. Enemy waves must usually be cleared before moving forward, and hidden items scattered throughout the levels provide health recovery or temporary assistance. Compared with the previous game, enemy groups are larger and encounters tend to be more chaotic, requiring better crowd control.

Several Marvel heroes occasionally appear to lend a hand, including Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Captain America, and Hawkeye. These surprise appearances help break up the action and add some variety between battles. The Life Foundation symbiotes each have their own fighting style, so learning their movement patterns and knowing when to attack becomes increasingly important as the adventure reaches its final stages.
