About Road Runner
Road Runner is an action game based on the famous Looney Tunes rivalry between Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. Released in 1989, the game transforms the endless cartoon chase into a fast-moving adventure where survival depends on speed, timing, and staying one step ahead of the Coyote's latest inventions.
Rather than focusing on direct combat, the game captures the spirit of the animated shorts by putting players in control of Road Runner as he races through deserts, highways, mazes, and hazardous landscapes. Wile E. Coyote is always close behind, constantly trying to catch his elusive target with rockets, jet skates, helicopters, and other over-the-top gadgets inspired by the cartoons.
One of the game's defining features is its sense of momentum. Road Runner is meant to keep moving, and many obstacles appear with little warning. Falling rocks, speeding vehicles, land mines, cannonballs, and narrow passages force players to react quickly while collecting bird seed scattered throughout each stage. The result feels less like a traditional platform game and more like a long, chaotic chase sequence.
The game was originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1989 by Tengen, based on Atari Games' earlier arcade title. Versions also appeared on several computer platforms, including DOS, Commodore 64, Amiga, Atari ST, and ZX Spectrum.

How To Play
Road Runner is built around constant movement. You control the speedy bird as he runs through side-scrolling stages while Wile E. Coyote relentlessly gives chase. Unlike many action games of the era, stopping for too long can actually put you in greater danger, so maintaining momentum becomes an important part of survival.
Throughout each level, bird seed is scattered across the road. Collecting it helps maintain speed and rewards careful navigation. At the same time, players must dodge hazards such as trucks, boulders, land mines, ravines, and maze sections that interrupt the flow of the chase.
Wile E. Coyote doesn't simply run behind you. As the chase continues, he uses various Acme-inspired devices to close the gap. Rocket skates, pogo sticks, and helicopters allow him to attack from unexpected angles, forcing players to react quickly and adjust their route.
The game doesn't rely heavily on attacking enemies or exploring large levels. Instead, the challenge comes from staying alive while keeping up a steady pace. Learning obstacle patterns and anticipating the Coyote's tricks gradually becomes more important than raw reflexes.
Later stages introduce more complicated layouts and denser hazards, creating moments that closely resemble the unpredictable chaos of the classic Road Runner cartoons.
