About Batman: Chaos in Gotham

Batman: Chaos in Gotham is a 2D action platformer developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Ubisoft for the Game Boy Color in 2001. Inspired by The New Batman Adventures animated series, the game follows Batman as he responds to a massive breakout at Arkham Asylum. With Gotham's most dangerous criminals back on the streets, Batman must track down each villain before the city falls into complete chaos.

Rather than adapting a movie, the game tells an original story that brings together several of Batman's best-known enemies. Players battle familiar villains including The Joker, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Bane, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Clayface, and The Penguin, with every stage built around a different part of Gotham City and its unique dangers. The colorful pixel art closely matches the animated series, making the game feel like an interactive episode while remaining easy to pick up and play.

Released exclusively for the Game Boy Color, Batman: Chaos in Gotham makes good use of the handheld's hardware with detailed sprites, smooth animation, and varied stage designs. Although designed for portable play, it offers a satisfying adventure filled with action, exploration, and memorable boss battles. Players can jump into Batman's mission anytime on Emulator Games Zone using the GBC Emulator, bringing this handheld classic to modern browsers without needing the original hardware.

How To Play

In Batman: Chaos in Gotham, players guide Batman through side-scrolling stages packed with enemies, moving platforms, traps, and environmental hazards. Batman attacks using punches and kicks but also relies on his famous gadgets, including Batarangs and grappling equipment, to defeat enemies and reach new areas. Careful jumping and timing are just as important as combat, especially in later levels where hazards become more challenging.

One of the game's standout features is its stage selection system. Instead of following a completely fixed path, players can choose which villain to pursue next after completing certain missions. Each level has its own visual style, enemy lineup, and boss fight, giving the adventure more variety than many Game Boy Color action games of its time.

Boss encounters require players to recognize attack patterns and make smart use of Batman's movement and gadgets. Some villains rely on fast attacks, while others use environmental hazards or long-range weapons. As players defeat Gotham's criminals one by one, the final confrontation gradually comes into view, creating a steady sense of progress throughout the adventure. Compared with earlier Batman games on handheld systems, Batman: Chaos in Gotham places a stronger emphasis on varied level design, memorable boss battles, and gameplay inspired directly by the animated television series.
