About Dragon Ball: Revival of the Dark Lord
Dragon Ball: Revival of the Dark Lord (original Japanese title: Dragon Ball: Daimaō Fukkatsu) is a role-playing adventure game developed by TOSE and published by Bandai, originally released in 1988 for the Family Computer. It is one of the earliest Dragon Ball video games and the first title in the series to use RPG-style gameplay. Instead of focusing on traditional fighting, the game combines exploration, story events, and strategic battles based on the early Dragon Ball storyline.
The story follows Goku and his friends as they face the return of King Piccolo, one of the most dangerous enemies from the original Dragon Ball series. After the Dragon Balls become connected to a new threat, Goku sets out on an adventure to stop King Piccolo and his followers. The game features familiar characters from the series, including Krillin, Bulma, Master Roshi, and other allies who help Goku during his journey.
You can play Dragon Ball: Revival of the Dark Lord online on Emulator Games Zone with a NES Emulator and experience this early Dragon Ball RPG adventure directly in your browser. This Famicom version focuses on exploration and strategy, using a unique card-based battle system instead of direct action combat. Compared with later Dragon Ball games, it offers a slower adventure where players plan their moves, develop characters, and follow a story inspired by Goku’s early battles.
Players travel across different areas of the Dragon Ball world, discovering locations, meeting characters, and fighting enemies connected to King Piccolo’s return. The game combines familiar Dragon Ball moments with original RPG mechanics, allowing players to experience Goku’s adventure through a different style of gameplay.
How To Play
Players control Goku as he travels across the map, searching for clues and battling enemies during his mission to stop King Piccolo. The gameplay combines exploration, random encounters, story events, and strategic battles where players must carefully choose their actions.
Battles use a card-based system where players select cards to determine movement, attacks, defense, and special actions. Each card has different effects, and choosing the right combination can change the outcome of a battle. Players need to think ahead instead of simply attacking, especially when facing stronger enemies.
During the adventure, Goku can improve his abilities by gaining experience from battles and progressing through the story. Players encounter different opponents from the Dragon Ball universe and must manage their resources carefully while traveling between locations.
The game features a world map system where players move between areas, discover events, and continue the story. Unlike later Dragon Ball titles that focus on martial arts battles, Dragon Ball: Revival of the Dark Lord emphasizes adventure and strategy, creating a unique RPG interpretation of Goku’s early journey.
Its card-based combat, story-driven progression, and focus on exploration make it one of the most distinctive early Dragon Ball games, offering a different way to experience the battle against King Piccolo.
