About Batman: Gotham City Racer
Batman: Gotham City Racer is a vehicular combat racing game developed by Sinister Games and published by Ubisoft for the PlayStation in 2001. Inspired by The New Batman Adventures animated series, the game shifts the focus away from traditional hand-to-hand combat and puts players behind the wheel of Batman's high-tech vehicles. Instead of clearing side-scrolling stages, you'll race through Gotham City while chasing dangerous criminals and stopping villains before they can escape.
The story follows Batman as he responds to a series of crimes committed by some of Gotham's most notorious enemies. Throughout the campaign, players encounter familiar villains including The Joker, Mr. Freeze, Harley Quinn, Clayface, Poison Ivy, and The Penguin. Each mission takes place in different parts of Gotham, from crowded city streets and industrial zones to underground tunnels and elevated highways. The game's cel-shaded visuals closely resemble the animated television series, giving every race the look of an interactive cartoon episode.
Released exclusively for the PlayStation, Batman: Gotham City Racer combines arcade racing with action-focused objectives instead of traditional lap-based competitions. Players can experience this unique take on Batman's world through Emulator Games Zone using the PlayStation Emulator, making it easy to race across Gotham and pursue its most wanted criminals directly in a web browser.
How To Play
In Batman: Gotham City Racer, players control the Batmobile and several other Bat-vehicles while completing mission-based objectives across Gotham City. Rather than simply finishing first in a race, many missions require chasing escaping villains, protecting civilians, reaching checkpoints before time expires, or destroying enemy vehicles. Every objective encourages aggressive driving instead of standard circuit racing.
The PlayStation version features a variety of vehicles, each with different handling and performance. As players progress through Story Mode, new vehicles become available, offering better speed, acceleration, or durability for tougher missions. Learning how each vehicle handles around Gotham's sharp corners and narrow streets is an important part of mastering later stages.
Enemy encounters add another layer to the gameplay. Villains often attack while driving, forcing players to dodge obstacles, avoid incoming projectiles, and use the Batmobile's onboard weapons to disable opponents. The game also includes challenge modes and unlockable content, giving players additional reasons to revisit completed missions. Compared with other Batman games of the era, Batman: Gotham City Racer stands out by building the entire adventure around high-speed pursuits, vehicle combat, and the iconic Batmobile rather than traditional superhero fighting.
